| #1 | HI,
Can any one tell me that if I want to do a Durga Puja and want to keep fasting then which day I should do it in the day of Astami or last day of the dusshera ?
I know that on the day of dussehera(last day) there is one more puja known as "somonath brata" and so people keep fasting on that day and do the puja.
But if I am keen only to do Durga Puja(and not somonath brata) should I keep fasting on Astami ?
I am fully confused as I know that on Astami cecrifise of animals happen before maa durga and people eat non-veg.
Please help me out though now I think I will do the last day puja as I will be able to do both the durga puja as well as Somonath Brata on that day.

Fasting on the day of Mahastami is popular in West Bengal, not Orissa. In our state fasting is done mostly on the Dasahara day, whether you perform the 'somanath brata' or not. |
